Hisar Mosque
One of the most beautiful and grand mosques of Izmir, the Hisar mosque was constructed in late 16th century by Aydinoglu Yakup Bey. The enchanting domes are built in stone and encrusted with lead. The largest dome rests on eight pillars and exhibits excellent altar and pulpit. The interiors of the mosque are intricately done in Ottoman art and add to the beauty of the structure. The mosque went under several restorations and hence has a European influence in its structure.
The dome gallery is surrounded by seven domes in an open courtyard and the tall minaret has a balcony. The overall ambience of the mosque is soothing and devotees can peacefully pray in its premises.
