Edesten Bazaar was built between 1417-1418 during the reign of Çelebi Sultan Mehmet in order to generate income for the Old Mosque. It is one of the most interesting examples of the early Ottoman period bazaars, standing and in use. Its architect is Hacı Alaeddin. It is a structure with 14 domes and has 54 shops on its four facades. Each dome has a window and the interior is illuminated by them. Its roof is covered with lead.
